Girls Home - Elburgon, Kenya

Moses and Mary Girls Home in Elburgon, Kenya was Eagles Wings first overseas project started in 2004.This really was the inspiration to start a charity in the UK to change lives for good and rescue young girls living in very difficult circumstances in the surrounding Kasarani slum area. Initially 40 girls were selected to move into the new home which was financed entirely by Eagles Wings including purchase of the land. With a secure partner in Bishop Mark Kariuki, who was actually born in Elburgon, together we have been able to rescue many girls and send them to school and look after them in a safe environment. The project was slowly handed over to local management in Kenya who also covered the increased costs of schooling. Before the hand over, Eagles Wings bought a shamba (farmland) nearby, covering about 4 acres, which would supply food and an ongoing revenue for the home.

Still today, we are in contact with a number of 'our girls' who have achieved much and are so grateful for the opportunity given to them to be brought up in a safe home and educated well.

Here are eight of the first girls celebrating the opening of the home. After some years, an extension was built to act as a half way house for the older girls reaching the age of 18. The specialist irrigated greenhouse was also constructed on the farm land.
